It is not certain whether the victims will actually see part of their money back. “That depends on the situation of the company. If there are sufficient funds, they can be paid from there. It is now the task of the trustee to see whether any assets can be found for this,” says Frank Vennekens, spokesperson for the company court.

The chance that the advances will be fully repaid is very small. “If sufficient funds are already available, they are first paid out to the privileged creditors such as the National Social Security Office and the tax authorities. After that, it is up to the other creditors,” Vennekens explains. After the bankruptcy, a judicial investigation can be started into possible bankruptcy crimes such as the removal of funds.
