SWIMMING At the Austrian Short Course Championships in the Grazer Auster, only one swimmer from the Eisenstadt clubs went into the pool due to the corona-related reduction in the starter field: The Osliper Florian Schumich stepped into the ring for the Eisenstadt Swimming Union (ESU), so to speak.
The only representative of the state capital at the state championships was all the more diligent. He completed a total of nine preliminary heats and finals and made it into the top ten every time. The postponement of the championships was bitter for Schumich, he was already too old in the Grazer Auster to start in the juniors. His final qualifications in four different disciplines in the general class are therefore all the more remarkable.
Country record for Florian Schumich
At the short course championships, Schumich presented his – despite a long break from competitions –
strong form impressively demonstrated. The Osliper presented himself strongest in the 200 meter back competition, where he set a new Burgenland record with a time of 2: 07.94 minutes and swam in seventh place. The ESU ace came in eighth in the competitions over 100 meters back with a time of 58.24 seconds and over 400 meters medley, for which he needed 4: 39.76 minutes in Graz. With tenth place over 50 meters back, Schumich rounded off his strong championship result with the fourth top ten result. “I am very satisfied with my personal best times”, the Osliper proudly summed up. The strong performance wasn’t the highlight of the weekend for him: “I’m particularly pleased to finally be able to take part in a competition again.”
He also received praise for this from his team of coaches led by Lena Seebauer, as he was able to show the training performance in competition.
