Suara.com – Children learning swim not only healthy physically but also increase ability vocabulary. This is likely influenced by practice motor in swimming which improves vocabulary skills.
Launching from Medicinenet, research published in Journal of Speech, Language and Hearing Research This study looked at 48 children aged 6 to 12 years. The results showed that the swimmers did 13 percent better on the follow-up test of the new words.
“Motor movement helps in coding new words,” says Madison Pruit, a former college swimmer who did the research as a graduate student at the University of Delaware.
Pruitt says swimming training increases levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor, a protein called the ‘Miracle-Gro of the brain’. So that it has the potential to absorb new vocabulary in children.

“It’s about the amount of energy demanded each brain training,” kata Pruitt.
Swimming is an activity that children can do without much thought or instruction. This makes it also good for improving the ability to absorb new words.
Study Co-author Giovanna Morini, assistant professor of science and communication disorders, and Pruitt’s advisor on the study said the research was helpful.
“We’re really excited about this research because it applies to doctors, caregivers, and educators who can put it into practice,” Morini said in the release.
“It’s simple things, nothing out of the ordinary. But it can really help improve children’s abilities.”
