Between mountains, lakes and rivers, in Lyon we are spoiled for summer. And that’s good news because with almost 30 degrees already at the end of May, it’s better to escape the sunstroke. So if you’re wondering where to cool off, read this article (and if you’re not, read it anyway).
Where to swim?
The Rhône swimming pool
On the quays of the Rhône, it is a real haven of freshness in the heart of the city that is offered to you. With its fifty-meter outdoor pool, you can enjoy the pleasures of swimming while contemplating the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière while doing the backstroke. Whether you want to do a few refreshing lengths or simply relax on the deckchairs by the water, the Piscine du Rhône offers you the ideal space to escape the summer heat.

Nearby bodies of water
Around Lyon, you will also find several natural bodies of water suitable for swimming. Fir Lake, located about an hour away, offers a sandy beach and clear waters, ideal for a day of relaxation with family or friends. Be careful though if you are agoraphobic, in summer there are people.

And of course, even closer, you have Lake Miribel Jonage also very popular with swimmers, ideal for cooling off and sunbathing less than twenty minutes by car from Place Bellecour.
And for another less popular place but still very cool, I would have told you about the Gerland swimming pool, another outdoor swimming pool, but it won’t open its doors before the end of the year, so we forget about it.
Where to stroll along the water?
The Tete d’Or Park
One of the largest urban parks in France, an ideal place to relax and cool off. It has a beautiful lake where you can rent pedal boats and rowing boats. A must for a romantic stroll (or an outing with family or friends). In any case, you will enjoy the shade of the trees and the light breeze while relaxing by the water. And that, who can refuse?
The docks
Scoop for you (or not?), Lyon is crossed by two magnificent rivers, the Rhône and the Saône, which offer cool natural places. You can relax on the banks, and maybe dip your toes in the water if you feel like it. Be careful, swimming is however prohibited (and dangerous), so still prefer a splash in the Terreaux fountain, at least it will simply be prohibited and not dangerous.
So yes, this summer again, you will be hot, but don’t be discouraged. Lyon is full of places where you can swim and refresh yourself while enjoying the natural beauty of the city. Whether you prefer a municipal swimming pool, a quiet river or a peaceful lake, you are bound to find what you are looking for. So don’t hesitate to explore these wonderful places and immerse yourself in an unforgettable swimming experience this summer in Lyon!
