In the first set, both players had trouble maintaining their own service: Šwiateková lost it three times, Sakkari even four times, including the tenth game, in which Polka turned the third setball. The second set was already a definite matter, from 1: 1 Šwiateková won five games in a row and thus the whole tournament nicknamed the fifth grand slam.

The final in the California desert was a replay of the semi-final duel from the February tournament in Doha, where Šwiateková defeated Sakkari for the first time in her career and won the title. Today, the tournament trio scored the eleventh victory in a row and adjusted the mutual balance to 2: 3.

Spaniard Rafael Nadal and American Taylor Fritz will compete for the men’s title. If Nadal wins, he equals Novak Djokovic’s titles with a 36th Masters triumph.
