FORT WORTH, Texas – Number 1 Iga Swiatek defeated Caroline Garcia 6-3, 6-2 in Thursday’s WTA Finals.
Swiatek has won nine of the last 11 matches of the match.
The Pole also beat Daria Kasatkina in two sets on Tuesday.
This season, Swiatek’s record against the top 10 players is 14-1.
Of the eight players in the running, only Garcia defeated Swiatek in Poland in July.
Kasatkina ended the evening’s show by knocking out American Coco Gauff with a 7-6 (6), 6-3 win.
Gauff, fourth in the WTA world rankings, has lost all four games since the start of the tournament, two singles and two doubles with compatriot Jessica Pegula.
After the matches played on Thursday, Swiatek qualified for the semifinals. Garcia and Kasatkina meet on Saturday for another place in the semifinals of that group.
Earlier on Thursday, in the doubles, Gabriela Dabrowski of Ottawa and Giuliana Olmos of Mexico won 7-6 (5), 2-6, 12-10 over Jelena Ostapenko and Lyudmyla Kichenok.
Dabrowski and Olmos improved their record to 1-1 in the end-of-season Women’s Tour tournament.
They opened the competition on Tuesday by losing 7-5, 6-0 to Beatriz Haddad Maia and Anna Danilina.
Ostapenko and Kichenok saw their performance drop to 0-2. They made 27 unforced errors, 21 more than the Canadian-Mexican pair.
Dabrowski and Olmos will have Belgian Elise Mertens and Russian Veronika Kudermetova as their next rivals.
The first two teams from each of the two groups enter the semifinals.
