Sweet Kanter: Village Fame & New Times, Says Prof. Rachev

Unexpected‍ warmth and Record ⁢Rainfall ⁣Hit Bulgaria

Bulgaria is experiencing a‍ dramatic weather shift, with a massive anticyclone bringing unexpectedly warm temperatures and record rainfall, according to leading climatologist Professor Georgi Rachev.

In‍ his regular column on bTV, Professor Rachev described the anticyclone, nicknamed “Cutie Kanter,” as “huge, a really huge anticyclone,” which ⁢will dictate the weather pattern through the ⁣New Year and beyond, lasting until Jordan Day ⁤in ‌the Balkans.

“From this moment, the weather begins to‍ warm and it will become pleasant,” Professor Rachev stated definitively. ‌”For most of Bulgaria, morning temperatures will be between minus 7 and minus 5 degrees,‍ but afternoon ⁤temperatures, especially on New⁢ Year’s eve and January 1st ⁢and 2nd, will reach from 5 to 8, and‌ in places even 10 degrees.”

He further elaborated on the forecast, painting a⁣ picture of milder conditions: “At‍ least that’s the vision, with slightly lower morning ⁢temperatures, but ‍higher midday ones. It will remain pleasant until Jordan Day.”

A picturesque Bulgarian landscape, expected to see warmer temperatures in the coming days.

Professor Rachev also highlighted the unusually high rainfall in the village of Elkhovets in the Rhodopes mountains. Located on the road from⁤ Rudozem to Xanthi, Elkhovets is gaining notoriety due to‍ its December rainfall: “This settlement recorded over 330, 340 liters ⁣of rainfall per square meter in the ⁣month of December. This is extremely high in the upper reaches of the Arda River, which will accordingly fill the dams ⁤along the entire arda cascade,” he explained.

Describing the current weather conditions, Professor Rachev noted, “Today at 5 ‍am it‌ was raining only in Ahtopol and sprinkled in Obzor, but everywhere the rain had already stopped. They will resume today in the⁣ afternoon hours⁤ with snow, but it will not be⁤ so much, mainly along the coast, mainly in the Pre-Balkans and in North-Eastern Bulgaria, ‍where ‌there will also be wind. But this wind will die down‌ and from tomorrow until January 1‌ it will be such a⁤ pastoral time.”

The opening of the new “Elije” border crossing on January 1st near Elkhovets is also expected⁢ to ‍impact the region.
