A youth coach in a Swedish hockey club is suspected of child pornography offences.
The prosecutor, who leads the preliminary investigation, confirms to Sportbladet that a police investigation is underway.
The coach was arrested on Wednesday morning but has now been released by the police while the suspicions remain. According to information to Sportbladet, the coach is being investigated for child pornography offences.
– I can confirm that there is an ongoing police investigation against the person, says the prosecutor who leads the preliminary investigation to Sportbladet.
However, the prosecutor does not want to reveal whether the person was detained after the arrest.
– I don’t want to give any details at all at the moment, but I can confirm that he is not deprived of his liberty at the moment in any case.
Sportbladet has also received so far unconfirmed information that the coach has confessed to what he is suspected of in questioning.
The coach has been active in the association for several years and has previously been active in several other clubs at elite level. According to Sportbladet’s information, the club had a parents’ meeting on Thursday evening where they were informed about the situation.
The penalty for child pornography offenses is imprisonment for a maximum of two years. If the offense is minor, the penalty is a fine or imprisonment for a maximum of six months. Serious child pornography offenses result in imprisonment for a minimum of one year and a maximum of six years.
