The Swedes were tasked with transporting flagpoles, but the vehicle proved not to be optimal for this. It was simply illegal cargo.
The longest legal length for cargo on the vehicle in question is twelve metres, and these flagpoles were 16.8 meters long, the Norwegian Road Administration writes in a press release.

– The flagpoles also protruded 7.2 meters in front of the vehicle, the maximum allowed is one metre, it says.
It was therefore not possible for the Swedes to get over to Norway with the flagpoles this time. And it seems that they were determined that the blunder should not cost more than first expected.
