Swedish U18 Girls Secure Victory Over Slovakia with 6-3 Win

Updated January 8, 2024

The Swedish U18 girls were able to pick up three new fresh points in today’s meeting with Slovakia.

Instead of Maja Helge, who made a fine effort in the opener against Switzerland, Lovisa Lundström got the big job of guarding the Swedish cage. However, it would only take about a minute before Slovakia’s Nela Lopusanova got a hole in her.

After a quarter of an hour, Sweden got a power play where Mira Hallin was able to equalise, assisted by Ebba Hedqvist, Hilda Svensson. Just minutes later, the same trio could strike again and take the lead for Sweden. Sweden also won on shots with good margins with 17 shots against Livia Debnarova, while Lundström only received six.

Sweden was able to extend its lead after the break and halfway into the match came a Slovakian reduction. It didn’t take long before an equalizing goal was also delivered. But it was still Sweden who controlled the game and once again won the shots.

It would take until the last ten minutes of the match before Sweden would be rewarded for their hard work. Two quick hits from Anna Brenkle and Hilda Svensson led to a new Swedish lead. In the final minute, Ella Hellman put the nail in the coffin when she thundered in the final score 6-3 in an open box.
