Swedish Success: Elvira and Hanna Öberg Secure Double Podium Places in Lenzerheide Mass Start

Updated 13.33 | Published 13.06

The ladies’ mass start over 12.5 kilometers in Lenzerheide was a Swedish success.

Elvira Öberg was second and Hanna Öberg was third.

– It means a lot, says Elvira Öberg in SVT.

After the two prone shooters, it didn’t look like there would be any Swedish podium. Both Elvira and Hanna Öberg stood on two bars each.

But after two standing shooters it looked different. The sisters shot hard and before the final lap Hanna Öberg came out in second and Elvira Öberg in fourth – behind the French Justine Braisaz-Bouchet who did not miss a shot.

Double podium places

Elvira Öberg made a jerk in an attempt to catch up with Braisaz-Bouchet but was unsuccessful. Instead, it was a second place for Elvira (+5.5 seconds) – and a third place for Hanna Öberg (+10.6).

– Me and Hanna have had many tough fighters at the interval sessions this year. We know each other’s strengths and weaknesses so I know that the long final hill suits me very well against Hanna. I felt that I had a slight mental advantage there, says Elvira.

Hanna Öberg was satisfied with the finish in the standing shooting.

– If you keep it together, it pays big dividends. It was really nice to put them in the last shot and be in the fight for the podium places today.

Fastest in the track

Elvira Öberg was clearly the fastest in the track, a whopping 19.4 seconds faster than Hanna Öberg and 32.7 seconds faster than the winner Braisaz-Bouchet.

Linn Persson missed a total of three shots and finished in tenth place. Anna Magnusson was 24th and Mona Brorsson, who at one point lost one of her skis, finished in 27th place.
