Hanna Öberg rode the sprint lap 25 seconds faster than Linn Persson and took the lead by 10 seconds. She collapsed in the goal net and was congratulated by Persson. Öberg won Olympic gold at the same distance in Pyeongchang 2018 and at the home WC in Östersund 2019.
The duo took silver and bronze in Friday’s sprint.
– I’m so very happy, it’s so damn awesome. I can’t do much better than shoot four zeros and Hanna does a cannon race and it’s perfectly okay to be beaten by a Swede. It’s really cool that we can perform at this level, says Linn Persson to SVT Sport.
– It is incredibly impressive, says SVT Sports expert Björn Ferry.
Persson entered the final shoot after starting the minute behind Lisa Vittozzi who then led after shooting full. However, Vittozzi missed his final shot and lost the lead.
“Was so cruel to see”
– She just ran as a training session, it was so cruel to see her shoot for a WC gold, says the Swedish shooting coach Jean-Marc Chabloz about Linn Persson.
A couple of minutes after Persson, Hanna Öberg got there and shot full, had only a rim shot miss in the first lying shot, and went out 14.8 seconds after Persson in the Swedish gold fight.
– I’m enjoying this moment, says head coach Johannes Lukas.
– Thought we had two at the top, says a crying Wolfgang Pichler in SVT’s studio.
