Swedish Skiing Star Ebba Andersson Dominates 20km Skiathlon Competition in Trondheim World Cup

Skiathlon of 20 kilometers was on the menu when Saturday’s World Cup competitions in Trondheim were to be decided.

Ebba Andersson pulled away from the pack behind and no one was close to catching up with the Swedish skiing star.

– A fantastic effort today again. I stood on top at the end of the classic section and said “go ahead and run now because you have the gap and know you’ll take them after the ski change”. That’s a key in a race like this and that’s probably where it was decided, says national team manager Anders Byström in Viaplay.

American Jessie Diggins finished second, ahead of Heidi Weng (Norway).

Things continue to be tough for the Finnish skiing stars. Kerttu Niskanen was the best Finnish on Saturday with an eleventh place. She was over a minute behind Andersson at the finish line. Krista Pärmäkoski does not ski in Trondheim.

– The freestyle skiing was quite good, but in classical I got nowhere. I can’t be that satisfied, says Niskanen to Yle.

– But everything feels better in the body. The form is on its way, says Niskanen.

The men’s ski athlon over 20 kilometers did not offer any thrills. The Finns were far behind as the favorite Johannes Høsflot Klæbo was, as usual, impossible to take into the sprint.

Britain’s Andrew Musgrave was second and Didrik Tønseth (Norway) finished third.

Environmental activists managed to get onto the course to try to stop the 20 kilometer race but security guards put an end to the planned action by tackling the activists.

The activists managed to throw something orange-like across the ski track before being carried away by the guards.

Perttu Hyvärinen was the best Finn in fifteenth place. Iivo Niskanen is still looking for form. In Trondheim he was 24th man, one minute and 44 seconds behind the winner.
