DAVOS. Yesterday, Ebba Andersson was two minutes behind the lead.
Now she breaks the Tour de Ski.
– It is more prudent to throw in the towel, fold in the oars, raise the white flag, she says.
– I’m not here competing to ride at a medium level, says Ebba Andersson when she meets the press on Tuesday.
Because yes. After three tough stages in the Tour de ski, the 26-year-old has made the unsurprising decision to stop competing.
– I will jump on a flight home, get home, land and try to piece myself together again, she adds.
“Not catastrophic, but…”
Around Christmas, Ebba Andersson fell ill with covid. She still made it to the Tour de ski, but there she missed the sprint qualifier in the premiere, followed up with thirteenth place in the ten kilometer classic and slipped to the finish line far behind the strong Jessica Diggins in yesterday’s chase start over two kilometers.
– It has not been catastrophic in any way, but I feel that I am a little too afraid of the consequences that could be. What I might need to clean up after this tour, she says.
Did you make the decision before you practiced today?
– I had in the back of my mind how I wanted to do it. And I got confirmation out on the track that I am more affected after yesterday’s competition than after Saturday.

The Norwegian also breaks
The biggest Swedish jumps in the Tour de ski are now Linn Svahn and Jonna Sundling, who are both 48 seconds behind Diggins, as well as Frida Karlsson (+53) and Emma Ribom (+56).
In addition to Ebba Andersson, the Norwegian Kristine Stavås Skistad announced that she is breaking the tour after tomorrow’s sprint.
– It’s a little early for me to go on a full tour, not long ago I had setbacks. Then it would be stupid of me to drive all the way, she says.
Ilar ready again
One who continues the tour is Moa Ilar, who was in tears after yesterday’s heavy hunting start.
– Nothing is right. Skis poorly technically and the body feels very bad. We’ll see how it goes in the future, she said then.
Now she is looking forward to Wednesday’s sprint.
– I will drive tomorrow and we will see. I take it a little day by day. I want the body to feel better than it did in Toblach, says Ilar.
– It feels like I’m more competitive today and that’s a positive sign.
