Swedish Rookie Leo Carlsson Out for Up to Six Weeks with Knee Injury: Anaheim Ducks Announcement

Published 2023-12-24 08.48

Leo Carlsson injured himself on Thursday and had to be helped by the ice.

Now it is clear that the Swedish rookie in Anaheim will be out for up to six weeks with a knee injury.

The club announces this during the night.

The injury occurred during Thursday’s game against Calgary when he tackled Flames guard MacKenzie Weegar and the Swede’s knee buckled inward. At first there were concerns about a cruciate ligament injury that could have put an end to the 18-year-old’s season.

– If you look at the way Weegar falls over him… in any sport it’s not good, Anaheim’s coach said after the game.

But now the club announces that it is a stretched ligament that means that Carlsson, who turns 19 on Tuesday, will be out for up to six weeks.

Third best rookie

The Swedish rookie has had a good start to his first season in the NHL.

After 23 games, the Swede has a point production of 0.65 per game, which makes him the third best rookie. Only Chicago draft pick Connor Bedard, Calgary’s Connor Zary and Minnesota’s Marco Rossi are better.
