Swedish Road Administration advises against driving in Western and Southern Norway due to heavy snowfall and strong winds

An orange warning has been issued for very heavy snow in Agder and Telemark. From Thursday afternoon, 25 to 40 centimeters of snow is expected in inland areas.

– Calculate a lot of extra time for transport and driving. Use the right tires and drive according to the conditions, recommends the meteorologists.

A transition to rain is expected in the coastal areas during the night to Friday.

Recommend home office

According to Telemark newspaper The police are urging those who have the opportunity to work from home on Friday.

The police in Agder advise residents to follow the weather forecast if they are going out and driving in the coming hours.

There is now a yellow warning for snow in parts of Western Norway, Eastern Norway, and large parts of Rogaland.

In Western Norway and in Rogaland, 10-15 centimeters of snow has been reported, and in Eastern Norway, 10-25 centimeters have been reported.

– Leave the car standing

The Meteorological Institute warns that the severe weather will first reach Agder, and then Vestfold and Telemark closer to the evening. Large amounts of snow will make it challenging on the roads, and motorists must expect delays and demanding driving conditions.

– We encourage road users in Agder to get home early this afternoon and leave their cars in the evening, says Rudi Malmo of the Norwegian Road Administration in a press release.

The snow that is coming will lead to difficult driving conditions this afternoon and this evening. Tonight, the precipitation comes in full force in Vestfold and Telemark.

– Leave the car and stay at home tonight and work from home tomorrow, if you can, says Malmo.

The Swedish Road Administration has all available crews out to secure, clear and litter.

Road users are asked to take it easy and show consideration for the plowing crews.

– They are out there working to ensure that you get there safely, says Nils Karbø, head of traffic management and preparedness at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

Landslide prone

The winter storm, with strong winds and large amounts of snow, will increase from Thursday afternoon and will continue throughout the evening and night into Friday.

Road users should be prepared that roads may be closed and access restricted.

In Rogaland and inner areas of Vestland county, a combination of wind, sleet and snow creates difficult driving conditions. There, mountain passes and sections prone to avalanches can be closed at short notice.

A little further up the coast, on Sunnmøre, strong winds create the biggest challenges. Combined with snow, the wind can cause difficult driving conditions. There is an increased risk of avalanches in exposed areas, which can lead to road closures.
