Swedish professor refuses internship to Turkish student because of Sweden’s NATO bid

A Turkish student who received an Erasmus+ grant was denied an internship by a professor at Stockholm University due to Turkey’s position on Sweden’s NATO bid.

Professor Per Carlbring from Stockholm University refused a Turkish student to participate in the internship program, because Turkey does not allow Sweden to join NATO.

Responding to an email, Carlbring said:

“I would be glad to welcome you. But, since Turkey does not allow Sweden to join NATO, I have to refuse. Sorry!”

Stockholm University has issued an apology on behalf of an employee who responded in an unprofessional and inappropriate manner to a Turkish student who applied for an internship.
