The Swedish government is holding an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday to discuss the escalating gang violence in the country.
The focus of the meeting will be in particular on measures to stop the recruitment of children and young people into criminal circles.
Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer announced on Sunday that he called the meeting.
– Much of what we are doing now should have been done in the last eight years, he said then.
It is the council against organized crime that will discuss the situation. The chief of the national police and representatives of other justice authorities, but also the social authorities, the school board and the institutional board sit here.
– We want to ensure that all relevant actors have the same understanding of the situation, so that we can have a common force in the measures, said Strömmer, who belongs to the Moderate party.
So far in September, there have been seven fatal shooting incidents in Sweden. On the night of Tuesday, shots were fired at the door of two apartments in the Stockholm area, and what is believed to have been an explosion was triggered at a terraced house in Trollhättan.
