Swedish Prime Minister Leuven will step down in the autumn

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Leven will leave the post of Chairman and Head of Government of the Social Democratic Party in November. He wants to enable the party to better prepare for next year’s parliamentary elections next September.

Leven admitted that this decision was deer for some time. The party needs new leadership and new energy, so next year’s election campaign will be led by someone else. The Prime Minister emphasized that everything would end someday and he wanted to provide the best opportunities for his successor.

Leven, 64, has been leading the Social Democratic Party since 2012, and has been acting prime minister since 2014. In July this year, he was reaffirmed by parliament as head of government following the political crisis. This was caused by the far-left party, which had previously helped provide the necessary parliamentary support for the Socialist and Green minority government.
