said the prime minister SwedeUlf Hjalmar Christensen said today, Wednesday, that the police’s decision to allow the burning of the Holy Qur’an is “inappropriate.”
According to the “Reuters” news agency, Christensen said, at a press conference in Stockholm: “This is legal, but it is not appropriate .. I will not talk about the impact of the measure on the process of Sweden’s accession to NATO,” adding that “permission to burn the Qur’an is the prerogative of the police.”
Remain calm
“I think we live in a time when we need to stay calm and think about what is best for Sweden’s long-term interests,” the Swedish prime minister explained.
Earlier in the day, Agence France-Presse, citing local law enforcement agencies, reported that Swedish police had allowed a protest and burning of the Qur’an in front of Stockholm’s main mosque on the first day of the Eid al-Adha holiday.
