Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
The first female Prime Minister Sweden, Magdalena Andersson resigned alias resigned from office just hours after being elected.
Andersson chose to resign after his budget was not approved and the Greens left the governing coalition. Andersson’s resignation was announced via Sweden’s Twitter account.
“There is a constitutional practice that a coalition government should resign when a party quits. I don’t want to lead a government whose legitimacy will be questioned,” Andersson said.
Andersson also said the current government would continue.
“The current government will remain as an interim government until a new government is formed,” Andersson said.
Andersson also said he had spoken to the speaker of parliament that he hoped to be reappointed as prime minister of a one-party government, namely the Social Democrats.
“One party, a Social Democratic government,” Andersson said.
Anderson was previously elected prime minister after gaining 174 parliamentary votes. Another 117 votes were against and 57 abstained. Andersson had already confirmed the support of the Social Democrat coalition with Green as the center party. However, this green party decided to leave the coalition after Andersson was elected.
Supposedly, Anderson will officially become Prime Minister and appoint officials who help run the Swedish government on Friday (26/11). He will replace the previous prime minister, Stefan Lofven, who resigned two weeks ago.
