The Tre Kronor management, led by national team captain Sam Hallam, does not withdraw Swedish players from the KHL because of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Both Adam Reideborn and Jakob Lilja have moved from the KHL to Switzerland, but played last season still in Russia when the war raged. Reideborn, who now plays for Bern, has avoided interviews with Swedish media, but now explains why he stayed last season and continued playing with army club CSKA Moscow. In his contract, it was stated that he would have to pay an amount of one million, two-thirds of the salary for the last year of the contract in the KHL if he decided to leave CSKA. So he stopped.
– I didn’t know exactly what the consequences would be. I chose not to end up without a team or without a transfer card if CSKA kept it. Then I decided to go back. I would have made the same decision today, I think, says Reideborn to Aftonbladet.

The former Djurgårds goalkeeper thinks it is wrong that the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation stops the Tre Kronor management from selecting Swedish KHL players for the national team. Sam Hallam has not yet officially told whether Reideborn and Jakob Lilja can be considered for games in Tre Kronor this season.
Adam Reideborn says he wants to play for Djurgården in the future, but the club’s sporting director KG Stoppel has had no contact with the great goalkeeper who has played in both the Olympics and the World Cup with Tre Kronor.
Reideborn chose to continue playing for CSKA Moscow despite the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. Criticism against him has been widespread.
– Everyone can think what they want. My situation was such that I didn’t want to take any chances. I wanted to play ice hockey and didn’t know what would happen if I didn’t go back. I’m a goalkeeper and the player market is smaller, it didn’t feel worth starting a fight with the club, says Adam Reideborn.
Both Joakim Nordström and Lucas Wallmark bought out of their contracts with CSKA Moscow and then moved on to Switzerland. Klas Dahlbeck left CSKA after his contract expired in 2022.
