There will be no championship summer for the Swedish A national teams in 2024.
The men miss the EC. The ladies miss the Olympics.
For the women’s national team, the Olympic miss is the first global championship miss ever.
The Nations League group with world champion Spain was too tough. But it was against lower-ranked Italy (1–1 at home) and Switzerland (0–1 away on Friday) that the dream of Paris went up in smoke for the third World Cup.
– It is clear that we want to go to all the championships, so it is a big disappointment, says the Swedish Football Association’s new general secretary Andrea Möllerberg and adds about her start in the new job:
– There is not much I can do about it, the margins are small and the competition is extremely fierce. It is sad that I had to experience this in my first month, but I still see that we have great opportunities to advance to championships in the future.

The men will get a new national team captain after Janne Andersson and is undergoing a generational change.
The ladies will primarily try to stay in the A division of the Nations League by squeezing second place in the group (to be decided away against group 1 Spain on Tuesday) – something that affects the journey to European Championship 2025.
What does it mean for the interest in women’s football that Sweden does not play the Olympics?
– Women’s football in general is growing, so I don’t think it will affect it.
– Then it is clear that we will put a lot of focus in the future on our player training and continue to replenish our A national teams. For international success, we want and must have for Swedish football to feel good.
Peter Gerhardsson, who has a contract until 2025, notes that interest comes with success.
– It is not only important that you participate, but there is also a bonus when you go far, that is when it takes off, he says.

Against Switzerland got several youngsters talents the chance. At the same time, several veterans can sing on the last verse.
Striker Stina Blackstenius says that the Olympic miss is a disappointment that the players will carry with them:
– But at the same time, this shouldn’t get so deep that we can’t move on from it.
