Two people have gone overboard from the Swedish ferry “Stena Spirit” en route across the Baltic Sea to Poland.
It will be about a mother and a child. At 17.40 the Swedish writes TV 4 that both have been found.
– One person has been winched up in a helicopter and is on his way to hospital. A helicopter is on its way to winch up the other person, says Stefan Lang, spokesperson for the Swedish Maritime Administration, to TV 4.
At 18.30, the second person was also picked up, reports The evening paper.
Their state of health is currently unknown.
It was local media that first reported the accident on the ferry, which runs between Karlskrona in Sweden and Gdynia in Poland.
According to Anders Lännholm at the Sjö- och flygräddningscentralen, the child (7) first fell overboard – before the mother jumped after.
A major rescue effort was launched, including two rescue helicopters. Several Nato vessels in the area are also assisting in the operation, writes TT.
– We have notified all the resources we can think of, says Lännholm to TV 4.
