Swedish expert says only wearing a mask is “dangerous”

COVID-19’s worldwide figures reveal that the problem is far from being solved. The number of young people has tripled since the beginning of the pandemic, warned or recently the World Health Organization and in Europe there are several countries seeing the numbers soar.

One of the most recognized Swedish experts said that only wearing a mask is “dangerous” to fight CODIV-19.

Masks are undoubtedly the greatest protection for human beings against COVID-19. However, there are doctors who do not recommend masks.

Sweden's leading infectious disease specialist has resisted recommending face masks to the general population - arguing that it is "very dangerous" if people believe that this type of protection alone will prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

COVID-19: Can wearing masks change the game?

Speaking to the Financial Times, Anders Tegnell, chief epidemiologist at the Swedish Public Health Agency, has repeatedly expressed skepticism that masks control virus outbreaks.

It is very dangerous to believe that masks would change the game when it comes to COVID-19

Anders Tegnell also stressed that countries with widespread use of masks, such as Belgium and Spain, still observed increasing rates of viruses. In Tegnell's view, it is totally wrong to consider wearing a mask and then allowing a crowded train or mall.

Tegnell said there were still few studies on the effectiveness of the mask and that the evidence on its effectiveness was "surprisingly weak".

The infectious disease specialist faced a reaction after the country's controversy refused to do the blockade, leading to a higher per capita mortality rate than neighboring countries that adopted more rigid approaches.

It should be noted that Anders Tegnell acknowledged that more could have been done to combat COVID-19 in the country. Sweden currently has 86,068 COVID-19 cases and a total of 5,810 deaths.
