Swedish dream start at the Olympics – clearly won against Spain

Spain had the lead with 2-0 and 3-2 – but then it was a fun end for Sweden’s premier opponents in the Olympic premiere.

In the first group round of the women’s handball tournament, the all-blue Swedish national team for the day delivered an impressive effort and won by as many as seven goals.

The position had run away to 13-9 in Swedish favor after a half played, and the distance would be greater.

After the half-time break began the game with goalkeeper Johanna Bundsen delivering a super save when she parried with her right leg in a Spanish free position and gave Mathilda Lundström the chance to counter in 14-9.

That was about what most of the second half then looked like. Bundsen continued to play big while the Swedish attack floated through the Spanish defensive wall time after time.

Spain, World Cup silver medalist from 2019, was not even close to equalizing in a match that was actually never particularly exciting.

Sweden has ended up in a very tough group in the Olympics and the premiere victory was extremely important to advance as one of four teams to the quarterfinals.

The night before Tuesday awaits in the next round the Russian national team, which crossed against Brazil (24-24) earlier in the day. The group otherwise consists of Hungary and France.
