The Church of Sweden is preparing for war and making plans to be able to bury five percent of the population. The Church of Norway is not planning for that.
One of the new measures that the Church of Sweden is preparing for is being able to bury up to five percent of the population. That corresponds to over 500,000 people. It must be possible to carry out in a situation where the internet, telephone coverage and the power grid are out of action, writes Our country.
Similar plans are not being made in Norway. Church council director Ingrid Vad Nilsen tells the newspaper that they do not have a national emergency plan for war situations. Much of the planning has been done locally until now.
What Nilsen believes the corona pandemic has shown that central emergency plans are important. She points out that last year the government set up a total preparedness commission to which the church has sent input, and which she hopes will be emphasized.
– The church has great resources in terms of infrastructure, presence and expertise in crisis management. Therefore, I think we have a lot to contribute, she says.
Commission chairman Harald Sunde will not advance any conclusions in the report which will be delivered in June.
– It is about the level of detail in what we are looking at. We look more at the overall level, he says to Vårt Land.
