Swedish announcement to leave neutrality after 200 years – What does it mean for NATO and Europe?

“If the Swedes announce after 200 years that they are leaving neutrality, imagine what that means?!” Businessman and actor Ivars Auziņš says in the TV24 program “Press Club”.

When discussing Sweden’s accession to NATO, Auziņš emphasizes: “I work with the Swedes, they are a scrupulous, pedantic and orderly nation. It is a country that will think everything through to the last detail. If they do something like that (ed. – breaks neutrality) does, there is a reason for it.”

“A war in the center of Europe in 2024 is unthinkable. We were not ready for anything like that, that’s probably why it’s happening. It’s good news that Sweden has become a member of NATO. Because we know the neighbor, we know that he understands what power means , what is the meaning of strength. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the articles that everyone is talking about will work,” Auziņš believes.
