Even though the travel restrictions have been lifted, it seems the world flight not in good shape yet. One of the airlines that used to go back and forth in Europe announced bankruptcy.
As summarized by detikcom, Wednesday (6/7/2022) on Tuesday, Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) filed for bankruptcy protection in the United States. SAS hopes this decision will help them reach agreements with stakeholders, restructure the company’s debt, and receive large amounts of capital to stay in the market.
SAS also plans to complete all processes within 9-12 months. This they did after 1,000 pilots went on strike and did not reach an agreement with the pilot union. As a result 75% of SAS flights have been canceled on Tuesday.

As a result of the strike, SAS said it anticipated the cancellation of half of all flights impacting about 30,000 passengers per day. Airlines are also trying to help passengers whose flights are canceled with the risk of changing the schedule which is quite far.
SAS pilots in Denmark, Sweden and Norway stopped working on Monday citing inadequate pay and working conditions. They also expressed dissatisfaction with the airline’s decision to hire new pilots to fill vacancies at its subsidiary airlines, SAS Link and SAS Connect, rather than rehire former pilots laid off due to the pandemic.
Currently, flight conditions in America and Europe are very noisy due to the number of flights being cancelled. Thousands of flights have been canceled as airlines are understaffed at a time of high demand for air travel.
One airline that recognizes it is American Airlines. Airlines are overwhelmed because they are understaffed, especially pilots.
“We have noted that we have 100 regional aircraft on the ground that we would like to fly but cannot due to a lack of regional pilots,” said American Airlines spokesman Brian Metham.
“Like many network operators, American has scaled back our regional flights in recent months in response to a regional pilot shortage,” he said.
