A 20-year-old Swedish man is missing in Australia after falling from a cliff during a climbing trip. It writes The Express.

He has been reported missing from the Blue Fish Point area in Manly, which is located on the outskirts of the Australian capital, Sydney. The area is very popular with hikers, climbers and fishermen, but is described as dangerous by the local population.

Fell seven meters

According to sources Expressen has spoken to, it is not the first time accidents have happened there.

Local police write that the man must have fallen seven meters and was left unconscious before he was dragged out to sea by the waves. His friends witnessed the incident, unable to help him.

Blue Fish Point is a very popular place among tourists, known for its high, straight cliffs that plunge straight into the blue sea. Today, the area is part of the Sydney Harbor National Park, but although the area is nice to look at, it has claimed several lives over the years.

35 people have lost their lives at the cliffs since 1990, according to Daily Telegraph. The majority must have been fishermen standing along the cliffs.

The police suspect that the 20-year-old man from Sweden and his friends must have climbed outside marked climbing routes and then fell.

Now both helicopters, boats and divers are looking for the man, but challenging weather conditions make the search difficult, writes Expressen.

– Very dangerous

In 2017, another 23-year-old man was dragged into the sea and drowned in the same area. The Daily Telegraph spoke to a man in the area who said he is often stopped by tourists asking for directions to the “best” crags.

– I tell them not to go there, it is very dangerous, the man said.

The rocks, cliffs and crags in the area must be very steep and go straight down into the sea where flat rocks hide just below the water’s edge.

Residents nearby say that the cliffs are not secured with any kind of fences or barriers.

“They need to do something about that place before it happens again. It is not safe there and never has been. No one looks after the area,” writes a local in a Facebook group, according to Expressen.
