“We continue to be an active and constructive member of NATO. We have once again demonstrated this with Finland’s membership. As for Sweden, legal changes in themselves do not make sense. For us, it is important to fulfill our obligations and take concrete practical steps,” Guler emphasized .
He also recalled the recent cases of burning the holy Koran for Muslims in European countries. In addition, the minister emphasized Denmark’s positive attitude towards these actions.
“Denmark, although late, has passed a law prohibiting the mishandling of sacred books. I would like to say that we perceive this positively, as well as every step that promotes the common values of all humanity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence,” Guler said.
Sweden on the way to NATO
Let us remember that Sweden submitted an application to join the North Atlantic Alliance last year.
To date, all NATO members have approved such an initiative from Sweden, except Turkey and Hungary.
Recently, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan submitted Sweden’s application to parliament. Stockholm expects ratification to take place in the near future.
Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström also recently announced that Turkey plans to approve the country’s application to join the North Atlantic Alliance in the coming weeks.
