Sweden’s Lauren Wins Eurovision Song Contest with “Tattoo”

Sweden won the Eurovision Song Contest on Sunday, after Swedish singer Lauren managed to outshine 25 competitors at the conclusion of the world’s largest music competition, which was held this year in Britain on behalf of Ukraine.

Lauren previously won the same award in 2012, becoming, after winning first place again for the song “Tattoo” in Liverpool, the first woman to achieve this achievement twice, and the second person after Irish singer Johnny Logan in the eighties.

With this achievement, Lorraine presents her country, Sweden, with the seventh and record victory in “Eurovision”, 49 years after the “ABBA” team won the award for the first time for the song “Waterloo”.

“Tattoo” won by a narrow margin over Finnish Kariya’s song “Cha Cha Cha”, after collecting the votes of the audience and the jury at the end of an evening of musical performances in Liverpool, the birthplace of the Beatles, in northwest Britain.

Because of the Russian war against Ukraine, and instead of holding the competition this year in the winning country of the previous edition, as usual, Eurovision is being organized in the cradle of the Beatles.

The organizers of “Eurovision” had refused to allow Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to address a video message during the closing ceremony, as this contradicts the rules of the competition.
