Sweden’s EC Hopes Hang in the Balance as they Face Belgium: Victor Nilsson Lindelöf Aims for Victory

The EC hope may be extinguished even before kick-off in Brussels on Monday evening. The men’s national team captain Victor Nilsson Lindelöf assures that the goal regardless is a win against Belgium.

– We can’t do anything about the second match. Regardless of the result, you want to go out and play for your honor and show that you represent Sweden in a good way, says Victor Nilsson Lindelöf.

The Belgian Sunday evening at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels offered an autumnal setting, a nice lawn and clear intensity in the pre-match training.

The men’s national team squad is intact and the players have completed a solid collection with victory against Moldova on Thursday and several rewarding training sessions and theory briefings.

The team has the goal set for the meeting with Belgium, who after their victory over Austria last Friday with 3-2 have secured advancement to the European Championship finals in Germany next summer.

The sights are set on a victory, regardless of the starting situation and how it goes in Austria’s group two away match against Azerbaijan.

Because even before kick-off, Sweden’s EC hopes can definitely be out. If Austria wins against Azerbaijan earlier on Monday night, the group’s second European ticket is secured.

Union captain Janne Andersson is aware of the conditions, but points to the importance of a good performance regardless.

– I will not watch the match, but follow the result. If it is a good result for us, it will be a boost, if it is not, we will go out and try to complete the match well, says Janne Andersson.

Midfielder Emil Forsberg does the same:

– It is clear that you keep an eye on that match, but we can only focus on our own match, says Emil Forsberg when he meets the press before the meeting with Belgium.

Belgium won the match against Austria away 3-2 after goals from Dodi Lukebakio (2) and Romelu Lukaku. Which team Belgium will start with is difficult to say. The Swedish national team management expects a couple of changes, but still no really big changes in the Belgian team.

Over 700 Swedish supporters are expected to come to the arena in Brussels to support their team.

The match starts at 20.45 and is broadcast on TV6 and Viaplay.
