ZENICA. Madelen Janogy showed the way with her nods.
Sweden defeated Bosnia-Herzegovina 5–0 in the first playoff match.
– We are satisfied, says Janogy.
Madelen Janogy has not had a given place in Sweden’s starting eleven in recent years, but against Bosnia-Herzegovina she got the chance and took it.
Janogy has had a great start at her new club Fiorentina and on Friday she showed that her goal form has been preserved.
Janogy headed in both the lead goal and the 2–0 goal against Bosnia-Herzegovina.
– I feel strong in the head and get fantastic balls. I have one-on-one duels in the box and feel that “if I win my duel, that’s the goal”. So it’s great fun, says Janogy.

Goal in the comeback
In the second half, Sweden gained an excellent position for the return match.
Filippa Angeldahl scored the 3–0 goal, Pauline Hammarlund headed in 4–0 in her national team comeback and Anna Anvegård finished the scoring with a delicious lob that went in via both the crossbar, post and goalkeeper Jelena Gvozderac’s hands.
Madelen Janogy is satisfied that Sweden managed to deal with factors such as an unusually short pitch, bad grass and Europe’s worst air, which was difficult to breathe.
– We are satisfied, we win with 5-0 and really focus on what we have to do regardless of the grass and air and everything like that, says Janogy.
– You just have to accept it. It’s not something you put a lot of energy into, says Filippa Angeldahl about the conditions.

Easier path to European Championship 2025
The playoff matches against Bosnia-Herzegovina are about staying in the Nations League’s A division and thus getting a much easier path to European Championship 2025.
8 of the 16 nations in the A division are guaranteed direct places to the EC and those who do not make it to the championship have a lifeline in the playoffs against the best teams from the B and C divisions.
The return match against Bosnia-Herzegovina will be played at the Tele 2 arena on Wednesday next week.
– There is one more match and we are very excited to go to Stockholm and play. It will be good to play in front of our fans at home, it will be a great match, says Filippa Angeldahl.
