Sweden won bronze in the WC, but it doesn’t stop there. The women’s national team is ranked according to the success of the championship – where Sweden defeated the highest-ranked team USA before the championship and where the second highest-ranked Germany disappeared in the group stage – as the world’s best national team on the women’s side. When FIFA published its new ranking list on Friday, Sweden was number one.

It’s the first time it’s happened and I’m deeply impressed by the players and I’m looking forward to meeting the world champions Spain at Gamla Ullevi, says confederation captain Peter Gerhardsson after FIFA’s new ranking announcement.
The position, ahead of the USA (now 3rd) and Germany (6th), which historically occupied the top two positions, is the result of long-term work on several levels. National team manager Marika Domanski Lyfors is one of the leaders who with great patience and great ambition has driven development over time in Swedish women’s football. She paints the picture with the broad brushstrokes, with her perspectives.
– After so many years, we are now the best in the world. It is proof that Swedish football is good and a result of so many working long-term and patiently for many years.
