Switzerland started the match at a furious pace. After two minutes, Kim Nilsson gave the ball away to a free position for Switzerland and just a few seconds later, the red-clad managed to twist the ball for a two-on-one position.
Jonathan Edling in the Swedish goal once again had to admit color when the Swiss had an open goal in the fifth minute.
Sweden was under enormous pressure and therefore it was surprising when the team took the lead with 1-0.
A common success press action caused Switzerland to drop the ball in the defense zone. The ball rolled in front of the Swiss goalkeeper, but before any Swede reached the ball, Michael Schiess had lobbed the ball into his own goal with a failed clearance attempt.
Of just the speed, Sweden made it 2-0 thirty seconds later. The goal was scored by captain Tobias Gustavsson on a free throw variant.
Switzerland was classes better in the first period. The Swedes played stressfully and made lots of mistakes that Switzerland should have paid dividends on.
Only one goalkeeper game world-class Sweden held on to the match.
– We get away with a lot and are saved by Edling (Jonathan) on several occasions, says Tobias Gustavsson during the period break.
Switzerland had to crack their goal zero early in the second period. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 1 – 0 for the visitors.
Switzerland were on top in the counterattack and Jonathan Edling continued to convince with several important saves. By and large, he alone kept Sweden in the match.
Sweden played a bit but the many ball drops in the attack zone continued. The 2-1 lead felt fragile before the third period.
– There is more to be desired by our team. We do not really get into the match, says Robin Nilsberth.
It did not take long before Sweden would have a psychologically important third goal. Kim Nilsson hit a bad pass in the Swiss defense and was able to shoot the ball into the step to 3-1.
Then Sweden started to play really well.
Rasmus Enström threatened and withdrew the Swiss defense but released the ball to Alexander Galante Carlström. He missed an open goal, but a little luckily took the ball in the rim and in front of goal again, and there stood the veteran Johan Samuelsson and made it 4-1 to Sweden.
There was a little extra pulse in the match when Kevin Haglund was sent off for Sweden with seven minutes left but Sweden persevered and could shortly afterwards counter in 5-1 signed Casper Backby.
Switzerland took out the goalkeeper and Jonathan Edling crowned his fine effort with an assist point to Alexander Galante Carlström who made it 6-1 in the open goal.
The World Cup final will be played on Saturday 16.30 and there Sweden can face either the Czech Republic or the home nation Finland.
Kim Nilsson wants to face Finland.
– Of course, we want our revenge, he says.
