Sweden Seeks Revenge against Spain in Nations League Game: Olympic Ticket at Stake

Sweden stood for a strong World Cup and eventually won the bronze. In the way of a final place stood Spain, who could then be crowned world champions after victory against England.

Already when the national team gathers again, at the end of September, you get a chance for revenge. This when Spain comes to Gothenburg and Gamla Ullevi to start the Nations League game – where an Olympic ticket is up for grabs.

The meeting will be played on September 22 – a month before, it is almost impossible to get hold of a ticket.

– Right now there are very few, single or none at all for sale. What we are now looking at is being able to release certain blocks. We want to put chairs on the south side down (where the away deck usually stands). It’s the first time we’ve done it, says Christoffer Lund, ticket and audience manager at the association.

Sees change

In total, there are currently around 14,000-15,000 tickets sold. The new release means an additional 1,000-1,500 tickets.

– We hope to get over 16,000 when we have every chair out. It will be a hell of a thing and entertaining football, says Lund about the meeting between two of the world’s absolute best national teams.

That the interest in Sweden is great is not really unusual, says Lund. When the team plays in Gothenburg, the audience figures are often at a similar level as this time. However, a large part of the tickets are usually so-called group tickets, which for example associations buy up. Now the association sees an increase in the sale of single tickets – which indicates an increased interest among individual supporters.

– It is a change that is excellent that individual supporters to a greater extent choose to go to football. The more people who do it, the more we can build a commitment where supporters and the atmosphere become recurring. That’s great – but it’s important that associations also run. They are the future, says Lund.

Responds to any tribute

Anyone who attends the match will also have the opportunity to pay tribute to the bronze medalist team. Sweden has not yet been able to celebrate together with the Swedish people as the reception in Kungsträdgården had to be canceled as a result of the increased level of terrorism.

But whether the association will take the opportunity and do something special for the medalists in connection with the match at Gamla Ullevi has not yet been decided.

– I don’t have a direct answer, it is being discussed how to pay tribute to the bronze heroes. How to do that is not easy, we will come back to that, says Lund and concludes:

– But it goes without saying that we should pay tribute to the team. We want to let people take part in it, it must come from the people. How it turns out is up for discussion. If it will be in Gothenburg or somewhere else, I cannot answer.
