Swedish team Swedish Challenge powered by Artemis Technologies have advanced to the semi-finals of the UniCredit Youth America Cup after an impressive performance in the preliminary round. It is clear that the days of training in the advanced AC40 and the preparation that our Swedish team has had are now paying off. Sweden wins their group and together with the home country Spain and Australia go to the semi-finals where they will meet the top three from group A, Italy, USA and Britain.
The two races today were not certain for Sweden, who were already in the semi-final, after an excellent day yesterday with 4 out of 5 wins. So you could go out today focused on improving and learning more. And the team is giving themselves a pass but they know they have to level up in terms of performance to deliver the top 2 tomorrow which is necessary to reach the final on September 26th.
– Of course it feels very good to come out of our group with a victory, we expected a good result because we have had very good training conditions, we have found many of our puzzle pieces put together but we are also aware that it will be tougher tomorrow. When we looked directly at group A who was racing behind us today, it is just as tight, if not even tighter racing. Everyone is in full control of how we handle the boat, so we really need to step up our game and give our best performance tomorrow. There is no energy to spare, but full speed is what counts, says trimmer Rasmus Alnebeck, in the mixed field just after today’s competitions.
The Swedish team in the UniCredit Youth America Cup is made up of young, promising sailors under the age of 25. The team represents the Royal Swedish Sailing Society (KSSS) and the Royal Gothenburg Sailing Society, (GKSS).
