Sweden refuses to vaccinate all children

The agency recommended that only children at increased risk be vaccinated.

“Vaccines are safe, there are very good vaccines, but we are now focusing on the medical benefits of each child, and we do not see the benefits large enough to be recommended to the whole group,” a spokeswoman for the Public Health Agency said.

The Agency does not believe that a whole group of children should be vaccinated for public reasons.

“We want to see clear benefits for the children themselves and for each child, so we do not recommend it at the moment,” she said.

However, if the situation changes, this decision may be reviewed, the authorities said.

At the beginning of the pandemic, Sweden did not introduce a quarantine regime, but banned visitors to nursing homes, restricted the number of visitors to public events and the opening hours of bars and restaurants.

As elsewhere in Europe, the omicron variant of coronavirus is spreading rapidly in Sweden. More than 50,000 new cases of Covid-19 were registered in the country on Wednesday.
