Night to Thursday, it is reported that an elderly man died when a small plane crashed outside Leksand in Dalarna County in Sweden on Wednesday.
The man was in his 80s and alone on board the plane, which was reported missing around 20.30. It was found after around 11 p.m.
The man was to fly to Värmland and had contact with a pilot in another plane, who was going to the same place. The police were notified by the other pilot after the communication was broken in Mora.
The friend sounded the alarm at 20.30 when the plane did not arrive at the airport on time. The friend had been in contact with the pilot via the aircraft radio, but received no answer.
On a radar, Luftredningen could see a position outside Leksand around 7 pm, which is believed to have been the missing plane.
– The plane has flown a stretch and been seen on the radar, and now you no longer have contact, says operator Joakim Blomberg at SOS Alarm to SVT.
The weather conditions create problems in the search for the plane, Agne Hörnestig, communicator at the Swedish Maritime Administration, informs the Swedish state channel.
– The bad weather complicates the rescue effort, he says. Leksand is a municipality in Dalarna in Sweden.
