Sweden goes against the UN on IS camps

Sweden has no legal responsibility to bring home Swedish women and children from the IS camps in northeastern Syria, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs claims in a response to the UN Special Rapporteur. The harsh criticism does not hold, the Foreign Ministry believes.

At the beginning of the year, the UN sent a letter to 57 countries that have citizens in the al-Hol and Roj camps, demanding that the countries take home their citizens.

In a long reply, sent on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejects that Sweden would have any legal responsibility for them. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has previously said that Sweden’s line is to try to get the children home, writes TT.
