Hockey players from Sweden, Canada and the USA entered the junior world championships in Gothenburg. The home Swedes crushed their peers from Latvia 6-0 and after the first day are at the top of Group A ahead of Canada, the defending champions beat the Finns 5-2.

The Swedes began to confirm their role as favorites already in the opening period, when Anton Wahlberg and Filip Bystedt took a two-goal lead with power shots. In the 33rd minute, Jonathan Lekkerimaki made it 3-0 with a power play, and when Bysted made it 4-0 shortly after, the winner was decided. The Northerners added two more goals in the third period.
