Sunday revealed Danmarks Radio (DR) that the USA should have used a collaboration with Denmark to spying on high-ranking politicians in Norway and several other countries.

The Norwegian Armed Forces’ Intelligence Service in Denmark (FE) has intercepted fiber communications in and out of the country.

– I take this situation seriously. I have therefore demanded that Denmark want information if it is true that Danish systems or platforms have contributed to this type of activity – and whether it concerns Swedish companies, citizens or Swedish interests, says Minister of Defense Peter Hultqvist to SVT.

A secret report reveals that the American intelligence organization NSA also spied on Swedish politicians, writes STV, DR and NRK.

The report with the code name “Dunhammer” ended up on the table of the Danish Minister of Defense, Trine Bramsen, in August last year. The report describes how Danish and Swedish companies were intercepted by the NSA from Denmark.

Hultqvist informs SVT that he has also had talks with the Norwegian Minister of Defense Frank Bakke-Jensen (H).

The Swedish authorities have also been in contact with France, Germany and the USA at official level.

Intelligence researcher Thomas Wegener at the University of Southern Denmark believes that the German politician Peer Steinbrück may have been of interest to the Americans. He was the finance minister in Angela Merkel’s first government, and later the Social Democrats’ prime ministerial candidate.

– But how could it have been in Denmark’s interest to enable espionage against the Germans? asks Wegener.

Peer Steinbrück describes it as absurd and grotesque if the FE has made it possible for the NSA to intercept his communication when it passed Danish internet cables.

Neither the FE nor the NSA have commented on the revelations so far.
