Denmark and Sweden are interested in hosting the European Women’s Football Championship in five years. But first it’s UEFA’s turn.
Sweden and Denmark want to apply together to host the 2029 European Football Championship.
The two Scandinavian associations plan to submit a joint application as soon as the European Football Union UEFA opens the application process. This was announced by the Swedish and Danish football associations SvFF and DBU.
“Women’s football continues to grow internationally and in Sweden both interest and participation are increasing,” said SvFF President Fredrik Reinfeldt. “We look forward to working with Denmark to create new dreams for future generations.” DBU chairman Jesper Møller said they wanted to create a “fantastic finals for everyone” – fans, coaches, volunteers, interested partners and UEFA.
Last year, the quartet of Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland failed in their bid to host the 2025 European Championships – the tournament will take place in Switzerland instead. Germany is applying for the 2027 World Cup together with the Netherlands and Belgium as well as Brazil and the USA/Mexico.
