Swedbank: The winners are those who wait to buy school supplies In Latvia

Just two more days and September will be here. This means that thousands of students will go to their educational institutions again. The previous academic year ended in absentia, but this is at least temporarily planned as a full-time year. On the morning of August 30, Evija Kropa, an expert at Swedbank’s Financial Institute, told TV3’s “900 Seconds” how much it costs to prepare a child for school and how to reduce these costs.

Evija Kropa, an expert at Swedbank’s Financial Institute, points out that initially you should be aware that the expenses for a child of each age will be different – the older a child gets, the higher the expenses.

With regard to stationery, sportswear and formal wear, Kropa points out that, surprisingly, the cost of those goods has fallen. In 2015, over 100 euros were spent on these things, but this year they are below 100 euros. The expert points out that the reduction in costs is due to the fact that parents have learned to wait. Those who are in a hurry to buy everything the school needs in the summer spend much more than those who wait until the merchants set discounts for many school supplies.

The best time to go and buy everything the school needs is at the end of August and until mid-September.

Kropa emphasizes that it is important to think about buying a school bag. It is often observed that the parents of the youngest children are so excited about starting school that large financial resources are spent on the purchase of school bags. The expert points out that the bag really should be of high quality, but it is worth considering its visual design, which should be such that the child does not get tired of the bag in the next school year.
