Sweating for a good cause: 3450 euros for children with cancer – Greven

Actually, Wladimir Zielke wanted to organize a big penalty shootout on the sports grounds of SC Reckenfeld for the “Sweating for a good cause” campaign. Although the corona-related restrictions thwarted his plans, the record sum of 3450 euros came together this year. As always, the money went to children with cancer from the family home of the Münster University Hospital, who have to stay in the hospital over Christmas.

“We don’t just want to work up a sweat together, we also want to help people in need through the sporting community”, is how Zielke describes the idea behind the campaign, which arose from a private initiative. Together with his wife Milena, the head of the SCR Military Fitness and Self-Defense department had made several donations to the family home. To get more money together, “sweating for a good cause” was created at some point. Sergej Miller, who is also active in the SCR department, and his wife Natalie are now also busy collecting donations. The children of the two families are also involved in the campaign.

Companies also donate

How did such a large sum come about this year without the planned event? “We received donations from private individuals and companies in the area,” explains Zielke. These were corporate and tax consultants Kortmöller, Kneilmann Immobilien, the painting company Hessbrüggen, the driving school Büter and Kerkering, the stainless steel manufacturer Hesta and Carsten Spielmann Transporte und Logistik. A lot of money came from the SCR members for the children with cancer, especially from the soccer players of the first and second teams as well as the old men, the sports bowlers and the military fitness and self-defense department. “Thanks to everyone who donated”, emphasizes Zielke. “It’s been such a difficult year due to Corona, and yet so many have reached out.”

The handover could take place shortly before the new lockdown. For this purpose, a banner of “Sweating for a good cause” was rolled out in front of the entrance area of the family house – with the names of the three children, who were each given 1150 euros. In addition to the money, the children of the Zielke and Miller families also deposited bouquets of flowers for the mothers of the children with cancer.

The adults – including Thorben Zilske, coach of the first soccer team, and Simon van Raalte, head of the bowling department – stayed in the background. Only when the children had stepped back from the banner did Maximilian, Anastasia, Elias and their families pick up the donations and flowers.

They thanked the donors with gifts they made themselves. Zielke: “That was a very emotional moment.”
