[디지털데일리 문대찬기자] The World Finals of ‘World Arena Championship 2024 (hereinafter SWC2024)’, an e-sports competition based on Com2uS‘ representative game ‘Summoners War’, began in Tokyo, Japan.
At 12 p.m. on this day, the SWC2024 quarterfinals were held at the Triangle Square in the Sumitomo Building in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. SWC2024 is the largest annual festival that Summoners War summoners around the world look forward to all year long, and the World Finals is the final stage to conclude the year by determining the winner of the championship cup.
From early this morning, numerous visitors gathered inside and outside the Sumitomo Building in Shinjuku, where the competition was held. The venue, decorated with the concept of Island in the Sky, the stage of Summoners War, was crowded from the entrance with audiences wanting to take various authentication photos. In addition, a variety of things to enjoy were provided, from an event to predict who would win the trophy, to a food truck where you could enjoy light refreshments, and a surprise encounter with a cute monster doll mask, which heightened the atmosphere of the festival.
On the stage, which started with a magnificent opening video, the spotlight was on this year’s trophy, and the 12 players competing for the championship rose one by one and received enthusiastic applause from the audience.
More powerful players than ever appeared, raising expectations, including the defending champion LEST, who is challenging the first ever Triple Crown, the previous year’s runner-up TRUEWHALE, Korea’s KUROMI, and even super rookies who debuted in this year’s SWC.
After a fierce battle in the quarterfinals, KELIANBAO, NEF, LEST, and ISMOO confirmed their advancement to the semifinals. This year, four more players than last year passed the preliminaries and finals and advanced to the world finals, making the game more exciting than usual.
In the first match of the first round of the quarterfinals, KELIANBAO, ranked 3rd in the Asian Pacific Cup, won a landslide 3 to 0 against H.FROG, who came from China’s separate selection match. In the second match of the first round, KUROMI, the only Korean player in the World Finals, faced ZEZAS, the youngest player to advance to the World Finals. KUROMI used a number of new summons in each set to block ZEZAS’ tactics and confirmed advancement to the second round with a 3-1 score.

In the third match of the first round, where two rookies who advanced to the World Finals in their first year of debut faced each other, STARTIIK defeated LADRILLO-OS after a close full set and advanced to the second round. The first four matches pitted veteran ISMOO, who was advancing to the World Finals for the third time, against Japan’s KANITAMA, who served as captain of the Korea-Japan Super Match in the first half of this year. KANITAMA fought hard, winning the second set with enthusiastic support from the home fans, but was unable to withstand ISMOO’s offensive led by the light attribute Sky Dancer. In the end, ISMOO advanced to the second round of the quarterfinals with a score of 3-1.
In the second round of the quarterfinals, the first game was between TRUEWHALE, a traditional powerhouse ranked first in the America’s Cup, and KELIANBAO, who showed overwhelming skills in the first round. KELIANBAO, who showed off his wind/dark attribute occult, won once again and was the first to advance to the semifinals. Confirmed.
In the second match, Korea’s KUROMI met NEF, the first-place finisher in the European Cup. KUROMI took the second set by actively using the dark attribute Onmyoji, but lost the semifinals to NEF, who won with the fire attribute Goku, which boasts high attack power.
In the third match, LEST, a strong contender for the championship and the defending champion, met STARTIIK, a new European player, and the match was close until 5 sets. STARTIIK constantly harassed the opponent using water attribute Druid and fire attribute Hagg, but in the end, LEST actively used light attribute hacker and advanced to the semifinals with a 3-2 score.
In the final match of the quarterfinals, ISMOO met PU, the number one player in the Asia Pacific Cup, and showed a destructive performance, winning 3-2 and earning a ticket to the final four.
As a result, this year’s semifinalists consisted of two people from the European Cup and one person each from the Asia Pacific Cup and China’s separate qualifying rounds. Com2uS plans to determine this year’s Summoners War strongest through the semifinals and finals.
Meanwhile, SWC2024 will be broadcast live around the world on the Summoners War eSports YouTube channel with professional commentary in 13 languages, including Korean, Japanese, English, French, German, and Chinese.
