Swayman and Forbort return to Boston for in-depth exams

The Guardian Jeremy Swayman and the defender Derek Forbort they returned to Boston for further exams and will be reevaluated on a weekly basis, Bruins manager Jim Montgomery said Thursday.

Swayman is injured in the lower body, while Forbort sustained an injury to the upper body. The Bruins are expected to provide an official update on Forbort’s condition on Thursday, but Swayman is still being evaluated.

Both were injured in Tuesday’s 6-5 overtime win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Swayman left at 5:42 of the second period when the Bruins hit Patrizia Bergeron fell on him. Forbort got injured by blocking a shot in the first frame.

The Bruins have urgently recalled the goalkeeper Keith Kinkaid, Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL), Wednesday. Kinkaid will be the auxiliary of Linus Ullmark when Boston takes on the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Thursday (7:30 PM ET; TVAS, Hulu, ESPN +, SN NOW).

Mike Reilly will take Forbort’s place in the lineup. He has been cut in the last three meetings.

Montgomery also indicated that the attackers David Krejci et Craig Smith, who both have lower body injuries, are evaluated on a day-to-day basis. The two won’t play on Thursday, but could face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.

Krejci will miss the third consecutive game and Smith the second.
