Swastika Flag Replaces Rainbow Flag at Neubrandenburg Train Station: Investigation Launched

Unknown persons took down the rainbow flag this morning and raised a swastika flag in its place over a train station in the city of Neubrandenburg, in northeastern Germany, DPA reported.

After a tip-off, the police took down the flag with the Nazi symbol, its spokesman said. Law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation into the use of a “symbol of an unconstitutional organization”.

“The swastika symbolizes the worst crimes against humanity that have ever emanated from German soil, and its erection is not only a criminal offence, but an inhumane and outright unconstitutional act,” said Christian Pagel, interior minister of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, where finds the city in question, adds BTA.

“Those who promote it exclude themselves from our society, want to disrupt the free democratic order and mock the victims of National Socialist tyranny in an intolerant way,” added the official.

Three flags are usually flown at the station in Neubrandenburg, including the provincial flag and the rainbow flag, symbolizing diversity and tolerance. However, the latter has been removed and replaced several times in the past, DPA points out.
