SVT is making a big Swedish family series based on the Maria Gripe classic

Maria Gripe’s classic, which began as a radio series written with Kay Pollak, has had a long life with constantly new generations of listeners and readers. Now SVT is making a big investment and turning the summery, enigmatic and spiritual story that connects three seventies youth with both Carl Linné’s 18th century and ancient Egypt into an eight-part television series with the aim of attracting a large family audience.

– It felt incredibly fun to say yes to a project that has meant so much to me, and which I was so taken by once. I am very grateful for my role as priest Lindroth, says Gothenburg profile Tomas von Brömssen during a presentation in connection with the Gothenburg Film Festival. It was also revealed that famous names such as Pernilla August, Lena Endre and Dag Malmberg are in the cast.

The director is the Norwegian Atle Knudsen, who also has many nostalgic family memories of the radio series, which was also a great success in Norway. He also says that the series will take place in the 70s but have an appeal that will try to attract today’s young people.

– But old phones will ring, the chess game will start and the curse will work, he says with a smile.

The screenplay is written by experienced Ditta Bongenhielm (“The Bonus Family”) and Lovisa Milles (“Jordkott”, “Our time is now”).
